It appears that some Baltimore law enforcement officers have had a hard time staying on the straight and narrow lately. According to the Baltimore Sun, Baltimore police officer Charles Hagee was recently arrested and charged with sexual abuse in Howard County. This obviously doesn’t bode well for Hagee or the reputation of the Baltimore police force, for that matter. What was Hagee’s crime? He allegedly engaged in sexual activity on three different occasions with a 14 year old girl who he met online. She allegedly offered up prostitution services and he partook in same.
Hagee has evidently been in trouble before and is already on the Jessamy (former City Prosecutor) do not call list for officers who are considered to be untrustworthy by prosecution. With his less-then-stellar record, it is not surprising that Hagee finds himself in significant trouble now, facing third and fourth degree sexual offense charges as well as sexual solicitation of a minor and prostitution. His bail is set at $75,000.
It appears that Mr. Hagee has not yet selected a criminal defense lawyer. While a public defender could do the job, it would be in Hagee’s best interest to find a competent, aggressive criminal defense lawyer to help him deal with these very serious, life changing charges. He is looking at a possibility of over 30 years in jail if he is convicted of all charges. Needless to say, sexual abuse of a minor is a serious crime that could ruin Hagee’s career and/or life if he doesn’t secure competent and aggressive legal counsel.
Being charged with sex crimes, particularly one involving a minor, puts you in a very bad situation. Telling your family and friends about the charges can be complicated and heartbreaking. The last thing you want is to spend years behind bars for a misunderstanding or a lapse in judgment; therefore, it is important that you immediately seek legal counsel.
